Leaving for Thailand in less than 48 hours.
More excited than nervous, but dreading the heat.
Can't wait to meet the group and explore Trang.
I've never been out of the West... I am expecting a complete culture shock. I've been reading a lot of Murakami to help me gain a perspective on life as an East Asian, but Murakami's writing style and frequent references to American culture is not shedding much light on what life is actually like over there.
So basically, I have no idea what I am about to encounter. I kind of like the mystery, but also feel guilty for not better preparing myself for the trip. I have a 17 hour plane ride to do some reading on the history and culture of Thailand, but right now, I couldn't write more than a page about the country and most of my understanding of it comes from "The King and I" and various movies. Pathetic, I know.
I will write something more valuable after I have left, this post was more of a practice writing a blog than anything else. Happy travelling and good summer to all! - Rachel

YAY!! great talkin with you and i'm so excited to hear all about your travels!
Your trip is going to be amazing, I'm so jealous. I just read the Thailand wikipedia article after realizing that I also know nothing about it, but the only things I found were (a) thai people eat a shitload of rice, and (b) you shouldn't piss off their military. Oh well, at least you already know all about the food. Can't WAIT to hear about everything. Good luck!!
I miss you already!! dont go love dad
are you safe and sound in Bangkok? Jay and I missed you for his bday breakfast....can't wait for you to get to a cypercafe. mom
Hi Rach-- Jay had a great surprise party at Miso's: big turnout of friends. Then they came back to our house for cake. Jay seems in shock. Wish you were here to celebrate with us. Write/write/write!! Love, Dad

Hi Rach--
Writing again since I don't think my previous posting got to you. Loved reading about your flight, especially the view of North Pole. Too bad that picture was lost with your camera. I wouldn't say mom and I are laughing about your losing the camera, by the way. We can't wait to hear about the trip so far: what you mkae of the others on your trip, esp Casey(sp), what Trang is like, the weather, the food, everything!!! Today is fa day and mom and I ran the branford Road race and we did okay, not great. WE're relaxing for a while now, then shopping (at Limon's, where else), and then a BBQ. Naturally we miss you terrribly but also are very excited about the great adventure you're on (yeah, I know I tell you never to end a sentence with a preposition). Keep writing. Miss you!!Love, Dad
We are following your amazing adventures with great interest and enlightment. Continue to enjoy this wonderful experience you are having.. Love, Poppop & Grandma Lori.
